Anheuser-Busch Installs Solar Atop New Jersey Brewery

A leading brewer in the United States is playing a significant role in promoting one of the nation’s fastest growing industries.
Anheuser-Busch, which has twelve breweries throughout the United States and serves up almost half of U.S. beer sales to retailers, yesterday announced the installation of a 300-panel solar energy system atop the company’s brewing facility in Newark, New Jersey. The solar energy system, which was designed and installed by Orion Energy Systems.
Anheuser-Busch is one of many brewers that have turned to solar energy to partially power their facilities. In January, the Fort Collins-based Belgium Brewing Co. installed the largest privately owned, on-site solar energy system in Colorado.
The Anheuser-Busch New Jersey commercial solar installation is expected to account for about five percent of the brewery’s electricity needs, producing 525,000 kilowatt hours annually.
Kristopher Scholl, the General Manager of Anheuser-Busch’s Newark Brewery, had the following to say about the facility’s solar installation:
“Our dream is to be the ‘Best Beer Company in a Better World,’ which comes to life through our environmental efforts, promotion of responsible drinking and investments in our communities. Whether it’s a new solar panel array or our employees’ passionate support of World Environment Day in June, we are committed to making a difference and improving the world around us.”
The New Jersey solar installation is not the company’s first. In April of 2009, Anheuser’s Budweiser brewery in Fairfield, California was equipped with six acres of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels that now account for three percent of the facility’s electricity needs.
